Trip Diary -- Philippines 2002 |

Anyway, our first stop was at SM mall and down to the grocery store so I could get some bottled water for drinking. I didn’t want to drink the water there and get sick.
If I remember correctly, one of my first thoughts was how the traffic was. I come from a small town and not to many vehicles, and now, here are all these vehicles, taxis, jeepneys, motorbikes, in which I saw four people riding on the same bike more than once. It was a totally different style of driving, but they seemed to do quite well at it. They would beep the horn as they were passing a car, I guess to let them know that they were going by. The traffic also seemed to move much more slower than what I am used to here. (Even though I live on a back road, I sometimes think I live on a racetrack) |
Anyway, later on that first day, we stopped at the Shangri-La hotel to check it out and take some pictures. There had been a guard at a gate before we could even get in, so they just told him that I wanted to check out the hotel, as I may like to stay there. We went in and walked around a most beautiful place. We took quite a few pictures there also. My first night there I came out with a line that could have gotten me beaten up by accident. My friend wanted me to sit on a boat that was on the beach and I said something that I cant remember now, but the people who were standing quite close by, were the same people who had taken a picture while sitting on the side of the boat. I didn’t mean to sound rude in any way, it just came out. |
Now, I wasn’t able to sleep on the plane at all, so I was up for about 38 hours now, so I was quite tired and all the excitement finally took its toll on me. We had stayed in a pension house by the name of Casa Rosario, and I really did like it. It was clean, had air conditioning, and hot and cold running water, and that’s all I really needed. They also had a restaurant down stairs, and every morning, my friend would order something for me and have it delivered to my room. (We both stayed in separate rooms) The cost of the room per night was about $20 U.S. dollars, which I thought was excellent, and anyone from the U.S. should also.
